Dengue fever is a viral disease spread by mosquitoes and is present in over 120 countries worldwide. Previously, the only way to protect oneself was through the use of preventive measures, such as mosquito repellents. However, since April this year, we at Legehuset have been offering the latest dengue fever vaccine, Qdenga.
Each year, approximately 390 million people are infected with dengue fever globally, and the disease results in around 20,000 deaths. The disease is common in subtropical and tropical areas, such as Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. Although the use of mosquito repellents has been the primary means of protection against the disease, the new vaccine represents a significant step forward in reducing the number of infected and deceased due to dengue fever.

Can I get vaccinated against Dengue fever?
At Legehuset, we now provide dengue fever vaccinations suitable for individuals aged 4 and above. The vaccine, known as Qdenga, comprises two doses administered three months apart. As of now, there is no recommendation for a booster dose for the dengue vaccine, but this may change in the future. It is crucial to emphasize that pregnant women should not receive the vaccine.
Are there any side effects of the dengue fever vaccine?
Common side effects of the Qdenga vaccine include irritability, fever, pain at the injection site, and decreased appetite. Other side effects that may occur are fatigue and skin redness at the injection site.
