Chickenpox is a disease that affects most people in life. The younger the infected person is, the milder the disease effects. It is therefore considered beneficial to get chickenpox as a child and thus avoid worrying about the disease. However, the chickenpox virus remains in the body and can develop into shingles disease later in life.

Is there a vaccin against chicken pox?
Today there is a vaccine against chicken pox. However, the vaccine is relatively new and is not included in Sweden's general vaccination program because the disease is not considered dangerous for children. However, there are some exceptions for children who can be harmed by chickenpox due to, for example, a weakened immune system or other underlying diseases. The advantage of getting vaccinated is, in addition to avoiding chickenpox, also the reduced risk of shingles.
Does the chicken pox vaccine have any side effects?
Mild side effects of the vaccination can occur in the form of tenderness, swelling and redness around the injection area. Fever can also be a side effect, which, however, subsides within a few days. Individuals suffering from, for example, leukaemia may suffer from a milder type of shingles as a side effect. But severe reactions are infrequent and rarely occur.
